This coffee is very special to us since we met many of the producers of this region. We visited farms in Chiapas, the most respected, highly prized coffee region of Mexico. The highlands of Chiapas has rich volcanic soils and high altitudes with ideal growing conditions. There are 225 indigenous women producers, many of whom are relatives and the main or sole providers for their families. We conversed with them through translators who speak Tzeltal, their Indigenous language predating Spanish. They cultivate 475 hectares using traditional farming methods. They receive fair prices, tools and support to sustain and improve their farms through the PMC program (Por Más café). This is more than coffee ; it is a story of resilience, tradition, and the collective strength of women cultivating their future.
